At the age of 30, he knows his time as a major contender is slowly waning. He wants to match Pete Sampras' record of seven Wimbledon titles, and with a victory this year, he'll do just that.
Federer is destined to face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.

Whoever wins that epic match is going to be the favorite to win the whole thing. It's kind of like the old San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys NFC Championship games that people called "the real Super Bowl."
But I digress.
Federer will have his hands full against Youzhny.
Both tennis players have shown a feisty determination to win against all odds so far in this tournament. Over the course of the last two rounds, the two men have combined to play in a whopping 18 sets. This sets up their battle in the quarterfinals as a potentially epic five-set showdown that will be must-see TV.

Youzhny hasn't ever gotten this far at Wimbledon. Over the course of his 11 previous appearances, his best finish has been in the fourth round.

Federer, on the other hand, is a six-time champ who always manages to shine on the grass at the All English Club.
He'll win this match against Youzhny, but the energy he has expended over the course of the past week may be to his downfall when he potentially matches up with Djokovic in the semifinals. Federer has the heart, mind and game of a champion, though, and I won't count him out until he's actually out.
